This exhibition will include a large selection of prints and offers a variety of subject matter with prices ranging from £50 to £1250. For illustrated list please contact the Gallery. Eric Gills varied and prolific output of sculpture, drawings, typography, prints and books established him as one of the major British artists of the early 20th century. This exhibition focuses on Gills original wood and copper engravings which he produced, mainly to illustrate the texts of Private Press books between 1916 and 1940, but also as private commissions, advertisements, book plates, Christmas cards and other ephemera. The prints represent the range of Gills imaginative skills, his socialist ideals and his unique, albeit idiosyncratic, approach to religion and sex. Many of the prints are rare signed proofs, or special proofs printed on fine paper. However, the majority are from the larger editions, printed by Gill in the 1920s and 30s, which were published as representative selections of his wood and copper engravings. These provide an opportunity to acquire an original print by this recognised master of printmaking at an affordable price. | ||
